About Me

Hi — I’m Raul (most people call me Gu). I’m an online math tutor with a PhD in Electrical Engineering, focused on clear explanations and confidence-building.

STEM Problem-Solving Background

Structured thinking that translates to teaching

My academic background trained me to break down complex problems into clear steps — which is exactly what students need when math feels overwhelming.

My PhD matters not because tutoring requires advanced math, but because it trained me to break down complex ideas into clear, logical steps — the exact skill students need when math feels overwhelming.

How I Teach

My sessions are calm, structured, and focused on understanding first. We identify exactly where things stopped making sense, fix that gap, and then practice until you feel confident doing it on your own.

  • Step-by-step explanations in plain language
  • We find the exact point you got lost — and fix it
  • Practice problems chosen to match your class/tests
  • Confidence-building without pressure or judgment
A Bit More

I understand what it’s like to struggle with mathematics. It wasn’t until early college that I discovered how to truly learn — how to break problems down, ask the right questions, and build understanding step by step.

With the right guidance, I was able to turn things around, complete my bachelor’s degree, and eventually earn a PhD in Electrical Engineering. I’ve been tutoring mathematics ever since, helping students build clarity, confidence, and consistency in their work.

I believe strongly in paying it forward. I also understand that tutoring can be a financial stretch, so when possible, I aim to find options that are fair, realistic, and sustainable for students and families.
